Pets in summer...

1- “Heat stroke” is an important subject requiring attention and probably causing serious danger in summer months. As a result of leaving pets under direct sunlight or in places where air circulation is inadequate, heat stroke may cause serious problems. Particularly at exteremely hot weather leaving pets in a closed car may cause breathing problem and with the rising body temperature the pets’ general condition may worsen and result in deaths. Unless it is a must, you shouldn’t leave your pets in the cars. If you are obliged to do so, beware to keep it short. You can leave the windows open to allow air circulation. You should not take them out between the hours 11.00 – 16.00 when it is especially stated by the experts that the harmful effects of the sunlight is at the highest and you should keep them at a cool and shadowy place.

2- Insect such as bees bite is one of the frequently seen problems. At insect bites which may cause death depending on individual sensitivity, you can have your pet swallow a cortisone tablet carried at its leash as first aid to avoid possible bad results until you reach the vet.

3- After each walk with your dog to check particularly its cars and paws and see if there are any ears of  some plants on its hair is another subject to beware. It is a plant which exists intensively in spring months, dries out in summer and causes a frequently experienced problem especially for dogs with long hair and long ears. This plants easily stings into the skin and has the quality to proceed inside the body; it may cause irritation and infections unless it is taken out.

4- Another point of attention and precation is the allergy and dermatitis problem for dogs swimming in the sea. After your dog swims in the sea, you must certainly rinse its hair and skin to get rid of salt.Besides you should use the vitamins which strengthen its skin and hair and the food your vet advises for rising sensitivity especially in spring and summer months. It will be useful to change the food with the coming of spring to avoid eczema and allergies for the breeds, which are liable to these diseases, such as Golden Retriever, Labrador, German Shepherd Dog, Collie and Saint Bernard.
